Filipinos have a Crab Mentality. For those that do not know what this is, crab mentality is a state of mind of a person wherein they keep pulling people down to push themselves up. In shorter term, Filipinos are like crabs. But you know what, with the present generation we are in, I beg to disagree.
As I was on the bus this morning, running late and everything, our bus halted at a bus stop on the Buendia Station Terminal Entrance. I was seated on the window side so I could see the things happening outside. I saw a lady, about 5’3-4″, wearing a formal dress, embracing a brown folder. She looked lost and in distress. Suddenly, she talked to a lady street vendor about something, I didn’t know what it was but I was pretty sure the girl is aking the street vendor for directions to a specific place.
Tired and sweaty, the lady smiled and stood up and she gestured different directions with her arms. The girl with the folder smiled and slightly bowed to the lady and she took off. The vendor again sat in her corner, behind her mini stall and wiped her sweat in her forehead and continued to yell “Saging! Sir! Mam!”, with her smile fading off…
You see, Filipinos do not have this mentality anymore. People learn from mistakes of the past generation and we tend to differ ourselves from them. There might be one or two who has this mentality but let us not generalize in in a way that Filipinos would be all affected.
I really wish I had a good camera at that time so that I could capture that moment. Oh well,.
